Traditional Montessori teaching methods leading into the 21st century.

Asheville Montessori School

Melanie Accinno

Assistant Director

Hi, my name is Melanie Accinno. I have been working in Montessori education for 22 years. I first learned about Montessori while observing in a Montessori classroom in college. I went on to receive my AMS certification in 1996 from New England Montessori Teacher Ed. Center in Boston, MA. I was drawn to the Montessori philosophy and to the prepared environment in the classroom which includes the beautiful didactic materials. I was inspired by the role of the teacher as a guide who follows the child and meets them where they are developmentally. The love of learning, sense of community and cultural awareness that children gain during their three year cycle is amazing to witness.

My husband and I are originally from New England, but have lived here for 20 years. We have raised our kids in beautiful Black Mountain. Our oldest son Noah attended Asheville Montessori School at Julia Street as a three-year-old. He is now a junior at NC State University studying Business. Our youngest, Eli, is a junior at Owen High. My husband Randy and I enjoy hiking, camping and kayaking. I am happy to be working along side Nan and Steve and the entire teaching staff at Asheville Montessori.
