Traditional Montessori teaching methods leading into the 21st century.

Asheville Montessori School

Susanne Olson

Hi there! My name is Susanne Olson, I am a native of Asheville and love living in these beautiful mountains. I went to Appalachian State and earned a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Art. I came back to Asheville in 2008 and completed my Student Teaching at Isaac Dickson Elementary. I taught for Asheville City Schools for the past 8 years teaching primarily Kindergarten, but I’ve also taught 3rd grade and 1st grade.

I come from a family of teachers; my mother, sister, and brother all taught in Asheville City Schools as well! Teaching has always been a passion of mine–in the past few years I started looking into Montessori Education and took a Montessori Philosophy Course this past Spring, immediately falling in love with Montessori! I would like to eventually get my Montessori Certification, but, for the time being I am thoroughly enjoying learning as a Teacher Assistant at the Julia Street Campus. I have always believed in following children’s passions and interests, as well as empowering them to problem solve and work together as a “class family”. I believe in the power of play and that school should be fun for students and teachers alike!

Outside of school I enjoy spending time hiking, camping, biking, cooking, and traveling with my husband. I have a rescue dog named Pearl that is still very much a puppy and we enjoy spending time outside together. One of my other passions is ceramics, I have my own ceramics wheel and take pottery classes at AB-Tech.

I am so thankful that my path brought me to this wonderful school and that I get to spend my days with such kind hearted and fun children!
