Tonya Jones
Hello, my name is Tonya Jones. I was born and raised in Asheville, NC and love calling these mountains my home. I attended Elon University and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education and added Elementary Education to my teaching license shortly after. Since 2005 I’ve served as a K-5 teacher’s assistant, lead teacher, K-8 music educator, summer camp coordinator, Sunday child care for a church and most recently spent 12 years teaching at Evergreen Community Charter School – only leaving to start a family and care for my own children. In my time as an educator and my beginning years as a parent I have often been drawn to and inspired by the child centric approach that is found in the Montessori philosophy. While joining the team at Asheville Montessori School is my first experience in an official Montessori environment, much of my own teaching and parenting has been guided by honoring the whole child and providing a framework for playful learning and growth. In my time away from work I enjoy spending time exploring parks & playgrounds with my husband and children (ages 3 & 5), crochet and knitting, reading unreasonably large science fiction and fantasy novels, & playing board games.
