Suzanna Baum
Lead Teacher 2019-2020
Hey there! My name is Suzanna. Though I hail from Colorado, I’ve been living in Asheville off and on for 20 years. I love animals, traveling, gardening, making art, making music, meeting new people and of course, spending time with children! Over the years I have chosen several diverse career paths. I have worked with chimpanzees using sign language to communicate, I’ve been a traveling musician, and I’ve served as a voice for the trees doing conservation work. Nothing, however, has brought me more joy than working in early childhood education. I truly cherish being able to discover the best qualities in every individual child, and fostering those gifts into their future.
I am beyond thrilled to be starting back as a lead teacher in the fall of 2019. I have been working at AMS for 4 years as an assistant. I have worked with nearly all of the teachers in the school and many of the children as well. I took this year off for myself after completing my Montessori teacher training, as my daughter graduated high school and I felt the need to satisfy a love of travel before I settled into my teaching career. It has been a wonderful decision, filling me with a revived sense of wonder and appreciation for people and places all over the world.
I am eager to bring stories and materials from all over the world into the classroom. I’m also excited to garden, play music, dance, and incorporate Spanish, French and Sign Language into the daily learning atmosphere. I have been looking forward to this opportunity for quite a long time now, and cannot wait to get to know each of you and your children much more intimately. I have never felt more passionate and sure of any other career path than this one.
